Edgar’s Bakery installs CASPR technology to fight COVID-19
PELHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Edgar’s Bakery is taking steps to keep its customers and employees safe from COVID-19.
It’s installing a no-touch disinfection technology to combat the virus and other germs.
A spokesperson who works for this technology company said Edgar’s Bakery is making history, becoming the first restaurant in the state to install the CASPR technology, which turns air and water molecules into virus-fighting agents.
Like most restaurants, Edgar’s Bakery has taken a hit during this pandemic.
“The PPP, the first PPP really helped us a lot to keep afloat, but our profits are way down compared to 2019,” said owner, Terry Smith.
Smith said he’s had to reduce hours and offer curbside service to make ends meet.
He said his employees are top priority, so he’s thankful he hasn’t had to let anyone go.
But he said it’s not enough to keep them employed, he also wants them, and his customers, to be safe inside his bakeries.
“The sanitation and cleanliness has always…we’ve always set a high bar for that at Edgar’s, and this new technology, that a friend of mine brought to me called CASPR, it just helps us take that to another level,” Smith explained.
CASPR, which stands for Clean Air and Surface Pathogen Reduction, is a medical grade technology used in hospitals nationwide.
The units convert air and water molecules into hydrogen peroxide to attack viruses, bacteria, mold and other pathogens.
“And we’re really excited about putting it in our stores. It’s a huge investment for a company our size, but we feel like… that it’s the right investment to make for our customers and for our employees,” Smith said.
Smith said he’s proud to be the first in the state to have this type of technology in stores, and he hopes other restaurants will follow suit.
He said it’s all a part of our new normal, and is what needs to be done to make customers feel comfortable.
